creativity training

Improvisers come up with countless ideas when creating performances. This is enabled by several skills and specific techniques they use on stage. In this course, we will learn about these techniques and develop several important qualities associated with creative thinking - these will include:

  • Liquidity - that is, how many ideas we are able to generate
  • flexibility - that is, how diverse our ideas are
  • originality - unconventionality of ideas and their relevance to the situation

During the workshop we will work on creativity on an individual as well as group level. We will identify the habits of one's thinking and work together to find effective ways to step out of our own boxes.

topics covered during classes

  • idea generation - techniques and limitations
  • Divergent thinking vs. convergent thinking
  • fluidity and flexibility of mind
  • evaluating ideas and internal critic
  • creative meetings - how not to kill the ideas of others
  • absurdity vs. innovation
  • the role of fun at creative meetings

why it's worth it

Classes in applied improvisation can be found in the programs of such prestigious universities as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford and the University of California (UCLA). Improvisation is also taught to future leaders in MBA programs, as well as employees of the most recognizable companies, e.g. Google, Microsoft and Pixar. Why? Because impro combines practical development of key soft skills and creativity with an interactive, relaxed classroom format.

what the classes are like

The course takes the form of interactive workshops. This means that instead of sitting and taking notes, there will be games, activities and movement. Through these exercises we will draw conclusions about our thinking habits and emotions related to the creative process. We will grow, step outside the box, but also have fun.
